ποΈ Basic Data Concepts β types, tables & charts
Data means raw facts and figures β like marks, names, photos or sounds. On its own a pile
of data is messy. But once we organise it and turn it into a neat table or a colourful chart,
it becomes useful information that helps us make good decisions. Let's play with the 5 types of data,
build a bar chart, and draw a pictogram! π
Playground 1 Β· Sort the data (5 types) ποΈ
Every piece of data has a type. Tap an item, then drop it
into the right bucket. You get a β or β each time β collect a perfect score!

π The 5 types of dataπ’ Numerical = numbers you count or measure (marks, age, temperature).
π Text = letters and words (your name, address, a message).
πΌοΈ Image = pictures (photos, drawings, emojis).
π¬ Video = moving pictures (movies, CCTV, an online class).
π Sound = audio (a song, a voice message, the school bell). π
Playground 2 Β· Bar chart β which sold most? π
Riya ran a stall last week. A bar chart compares categories β
the tallest bar sold the most. Tap β / + to change the weekly totals and watch the bars
and the winner π update.
π How to read a bar chart
The bottom line (the X-axis) tells you the categories β here, the things Riya sold. The side line
(the Y-axis) tells you how many were sold. A taller bar means a bigger number, so the tallest
bar is the best-seller. Always read the title and the axis labels first!
Playground 3 Β· Pictogram builder π³
The Eco-Club counted trees planted by each class. A pictogram
uses a symbol to stand for a number β that's the KEY. Switch the key and watch the rows of π³
recount themselves!

π§ From raw data to good decisions
Data is just raw facts. First we COLLECT it (from people, books, the internet, or instruments).
Then we ORGANISE it β classify (group similar data) β structure (folders & tables) β
label (clear names) β store (save it safely). Finally we REPRESENT it: tables for
exact values, bar charts to compare, and pictograms for a fun picture-count. Now we can understand
it and make good decisions! β¨
